Terms of Service
Last updated: July 4, 2026
1. The agreement
These terms govern your use of TmpState (the service at tmpstate.dev, its API, and related pages), operated by TmpState ("we", "us"). By creating a database, calling the API, or purchasing an extension or subscription, you accept these terms. If you use TmpState on behalf of an organization, you accept them for that organization. AI agents acting on your behalf act under your responsibility.
2. The service
TmpState provides temporary, anonymous JSON databases addressed by capability URLs. A free database lives 24hours with the quotas published in the API documentation. Paid one-time extensions lengthen a database's life and raise its quotas. The Pro subscription ($8/month) provides always-on databases whose expiry tracks the subscription. Exact current prices and quotas are published at /pricing and in the API itself; the API-enforced values are authoritative.
3. Your data and its lifecycle
You own the data you store. We access database contents only as needed to operate the service (for example serving your requests, enforcing quotas, investigating abuse) and never sell it. Deletion is part of the product: when a database expires, every request to it returns 410 and its data remains frozen and restorable for 72 hours, after which it is permanently deleted. Pro databases freeze 30 days after the last paid period ends and are deleted after the same frozen window. You can delete any database immediately yourself via the API. Deleted data cannot be recovered - by you or by us.
4. Security model and your responsibilities
Database URLs and Pro tokens are bearer secrets: anyone who holds them can use them. We store only cryptographic hashes and cannot recover a lost URL or token. You are responsible for keeping them confidential, for the conduct of the people and AI agents you give them to, and for maintaining copies of any data you cannot afford to lose (the API provides a full export endpoint).
5. Acceptable use
You may not use TmpState to:
- store or distribute content that is illegal or infringes others' rights;
- store malware or operate command-and-control, phishing, or spam infrastructure;
- store regulated data such as payment card data, protected health information, or government identifiers;
- probe, overload, or circumvent rate limits, quotas, or the security of the service; or
- resell the service as-is without adding your own product value.
We may suspend or delete databases and accounts that violate these rules, and we may report unlawful content to authorities where required.
6. Payments, renewals, and cancellation
Payments are processed by Stripe; we never receive card details. Extensions are one-time payments that take effect immediately upon confirmation - by purchasing, you request immediate performance. The Pro subscription renews monthly at $8 plus $1.50 per database beyond the 3 included, until you cancel. Adding a database beyond the included allotment charges the flat $1.50 fee to your card immediately and then renews with the subscription; spinning a database down stops its future renewals, and partial months are not refunded. Charges beyond the base subscription always require an explicit, priced acknowledgment in the API request before they are created.
You can cancel at any time - through the dashboard at /pro or with a single API call - with effect at the end of the current paid period; you keep access until then and are not charged again. Because cancellation ultimately deletes the account's databases on the schedule in section 3, the service discloses the exact dates before accepting a cancellation. If a charge seems wrong, contact support@tmpstate.dev and we will make it right.
7. Service quality
TmpState is provided "as is" without a service-level agreement. We work to keep it fast and available, but we do not warrant uninterrupted operation, and temporary databases are by design not a system of record. Do not make TmpState the only home of data you cannot lose.
8. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claims arising from the service is limited to the amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost data after its documented deletion schedule. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing restricts consumer rights you hold under the mandatory law of your place of residence.
9. Changes
We may update these terms as the service evolves. Material changes will be announced on this page with an updated date, and continued use after a change constitutes acceptance. If you do not accept a change, stop using the service and cancel any subscription - export endpoints remain available for your data until its scheduled deletion.
